I was on elavil about 10 years as a preventative until it stopped working, i was at the highest dosage because we were using it to treat depression also. Then I was on verapamil for hypertension and that helped for a while but then stopped. I had adverse effects from anti-convulsants and can’t take NSAIDS or triptans due to possibly fatal interactions with other meds I am on. Botox didn’t help. So now I am stuck with 30 Percocet per month of which i have to ration due to tolerance issues. My neurologist has given up on finding new treatments for me. Finding a treatment that works has been a very long and frustrating road, and still is…

Topiramate is has been the only thing that has worked for me so far. 150mg was too much, brain fog and forgetfulness. 25mg was too little. I’ve settled on 50mg and it has kept my attacks lighter and down to once a week now. My only issue with it is kidney stones. Apparently after it builds up it can cause kidney stones. I’ve had two emergency room visits in the last two months. I have quite a few small stones in my kidneys now, so really drinking a lot of water, cranberry juice and hoping. Nothing they can do for the pain, narcotics set off my migraines. Hoping they come through with Botox for me. Good luck.

Unfortunately, it just seems like you need to try it because everyone responds to (or fails to respond to) preventives in their own unique way. Topomax increased my migraine-related brain fog and forgetfulness in a way that became unbearable, but I know that doesn’t happen to everyone. Just know that you really need to titrate up/down with this one.

I was on topiramate for a short time early in my treatment and it worked very well. Unfortunately, I am one of the people in which topiramate induces glaucoma.

I have been on topiramate (100mg) for about 5 months – and i have been really satisfied with it. I used to have about 2-5 seizures a week before, now i’m down too 2.
I’m now, however because of work and stress in a bad period having more seizures and are propably going to get a higher dosis to 150mg pr day – i have a consult with my neuro next week.
The only side effects i have been experiencing is a bit of weightloss and i have been a bit more forget full sometimes.
I dont feel tired or havent expirenced any low bloodpressure.
I have been through 5 other diffient medications, and this i the only thing that has worked for me so far.

I have been on Elavil for 2 years and I LOVE it..However the last month or so I have felt like it wasn’t working as well. Meaning my mood dropped a bit, it wasn’t helping me sleep as well and I ended up after the last 2 years of being migraine free, it came back. Not as bad though but I went to my neurologist anyway today and he is upping my dose. I started at 25mg
