Chronic Migraine Since 1966

I was injured while on active duty in the Army when I was stopped on the Delaware Memorial Bridge when there was only one bridge and two lanes in each direction. I was stopped for line of traffic and it was very foggy out and while I was stopped, I got rear ended by a car traveling at 50+ mph. I was wearing a seat belt but I am lucky that my car did not explode since I had just gassed up at the end of the NJ Turnpike.

Seeking relief for disabling chronic migraine

I have been to numerous neurologists, including treatment at the Montifiore Headache Center in the Bronx. I finally had to stop working at 55 years of age when I could not leave the office because of a disabling migraine. I laid on the floor for hours before I felt some relief so that I could leave for home. I gave my 2 weeks notice and left work for good.

My treatment options

I have been on every medication you can name. Nothing came close to working. In 1993, the FDA approved the Stat-Dose Sumatriptan Injection and I had subscribed to the UK Lancet because it was tested in London. I studied everything that they did testing it and the day the FDA approved it, I got it and went to the doctors office to get the injection which was required. I still take it when nothing else works. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. If it really works, the migraine relief comes in about 20 minutes, but it doesn't mean that the migraine is completely gone.

My current regimen

I take Naratriptan 2.5mg twice a day, ibuprofen as needed, prednisone 10mg a day along with "B" Complex twice daily along with multivitamins also twice a day, magnesium oxide 300mg twice daily, Omega XL twice daily and depression meds. This past Thursday, May 9th, I awoke with a migraine on a scale of 1 to 10, this one was a 50. Nothing worked including 2 injections. It lasted through Friday and into Saturday before it started to decline in intensity. The strongest in the last two years. I can't have tomatoes in any way, peppers, anything red like strawberries, no spices, I don't eat red meat, stay away from the deli which is a trigger for me and the list is a mile long. I rarely have a day without a migraine; some very intense and some not so intense with no way to know what the day will bring.
