I don't remember not having migraines

Just wanted to grumble. My grandmother has migraines. My dad has severe migraines. I have them too. My boyfriend just asked "you have a migraine again?" He doesn't understand how I deal with them. My doctor was amazed when I finally told him, because three headache min a week isn't normal.
It got me thinking- I don't recall a point in my life where I didn't have migraines or severe headaches. I would get home from school, call my dad (a nurse), and take some medicine for the headache. I've grown up with this frequent stabbing pain. Sometimes I think people don't believe me when I say I'm having one because I can still function, but that's only because I've dealt with them all my life. I'm only 21 and just now spoke to my doctor because they've increased in frequency.
Surely I'm not the only one who considers migraine pain a part of their normal life?

  1. Hi Ashley76,

No problem - "grumble" away! Being in constant pain is exhausting, I'm sorry you are going through this. And yes, I consider migraine disease part of my life. I try not to let migraine disease control me, but that's not always easy. I can tell you you're not alone, we're here for you!!

Seeing as you are having an increase in migraine attack frequency I would encourage you to seek out the expertise of a true migraine and headache expert - a migraine/headache specialist. These expert doctors are different from neurologists in that they are board certified in headache medicine, which is different than being certified in neurology, and treat one condition all day, every day - migraine and headache. Neurologists may be fine doctors but have a hard time being experts in one area because they treat so many different conditions such as epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's and others. You can read more about these doctors in these articles; http://migraine.com/blog/how-are-migraine-specialists-different/ and https://migraine.com/blog/really-find-headache-specialist/.

Let me know what you think!
