Is it aura from migraine?

Hi everyone.

I usually do have aura migraines, but last week it was a but different.

It all started with a strong headache after which I noticed a small residue very similar to the aura of a migraine in my right eye. In light it looks like the spots you get when you look too long into a bright light and it is most visible when blinking. When trying to read something it is very similar to the aura from a migraine. I also sometimes feel quite a pressure in the back of my head close to the neck and somethimes in my ears.

The issue here is that it has been lasting for the past 7 days and no signs of it dissapearing. Is it possible that an aura lasts this much? Usually it all ended after maximum 40 minutes.

I have been to the opthalmologist and they said everything is ok with my eyes. Neurologist did a doppler echo for the carothid and also said that neurologically all is ok - i have an mri from November which shows nothing.

Is there a possible treatment for this?

Thanks!
Rox

  1. Hi Rox, thank you for reaching out! I hear how disconcerting these visual symptoms feel for you. I'm glad you have consulted with both your ophthalmologist and your neurologist. That is always so important to do when symptoms change from your normal. While it is not common for symptoms to last as long as you have experienced, it is not unheard of. We cannot offer diagnostics or treatment advice over the internet (for your safety!) but I thought this article might be of interest to you: https://migraine.com/migraine-types/retinal-migraine/ I hope if others have experienced something similar they will share with you! Please keep us posted on how you are managing. Wishing you a gentle day. ~Allyson (Migraine.com team)
