Jefferson Headache Clinic-I just want a call back!

  • By mlmiller6

    Hi everyone!

My name is Melissa and I’m 20 years old. I’ve had a constant headache for 4 years that fluctuates in intensity. Both of my parents and myself have called Jefferson to try to get me an appointment but no one will call us back! We have all left my information on the automated New Patient line, but we have not heard anything. Anyone know of a way to just schedule an appointment? (And if you have been to Jefferson, feel free to reply about your experience there. I’d love any info I can get!)
    Thanks everyone!
    Melissa

Same issue. “Your call will be returned in the order in which it was received” I would also love to hear if anyone knows how to get a live person, or even simply a call back.

I’ve suffered migraines from age 8 to age 26 with no answers. At age 26, I was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, which was the cause of them then. After getting my tonsils out, the headaches went away for 4 years and now they are back. Good luck with everything!

I just added my name to the call back list, too. Interested to know if anyone ever gets a call back and how long it takes. Or maybe you just have to keep calling?

It is just so odd to me that they have all of these people who need help and we can’t get a call back…I understand a long wait for an appointment because of the number of people trying to get in, but waiting this long just to speak to someone to make an appointment? Seems wrong. I’d love to hear how long people have to wait to get a call back.

Seems like mlmiller is not getting the info she was hoping for!
I’ve been waiting 3 weeks, but I should probably call again. I believe one of the moderators has been to Jeff, so maybe when she sees this she can offer some insight.

Oh, I’ve been there – I can remember I must have called them a dozen times. I think the last time I called I just started sobbing in my message and told them that I was at my breaking point. Well, it was true (I was at my breaking point). I think I finally got the call back 2 days later.

Honestly, I’d recommend then calling every single day. Every day. It’s just volume – they are probably overwhelmed and understaffed right now.

I’ve been going to JHC since 2009, although I recently have stopped to pursue different treatment options. Overall, I was satisfied with the service. The doctors truly care and genuinely want to help – and they are 100% sympathetic, empathetic, you name it. For the first time I felt like I was taken seriously. The doctor I originally had is no longer there and I was transferred to Dr. Nahas, and I liked her a lot. I’m just pursuing more holistic/natural types of treatment. If that doesn’t work, I’ll definitely go back.

I finally received a call back almost one month since I left my first (of many) message. I have an appointment and I only have to wait one month for it! Granted, there is lots of planning that needs to happen for this ONE day appointment (9 hour trip the day before, hotel, appointment next day, hotel, 9 hour trip back home), but at least I feel like I’m “on my way”. I will see Dr. Nahas and I’m looking forward to hopefully getting some new treatment options that will help my chronic migraines. Good luck everyone!

Oh yay! I see Dr. Nahas. I find her to be very open and will really listen to you and take you seriously. Do let us know how it goes!

Congratulations to you both! I hope you are on your way to relief! I just found out my insurance will not allow me to go and if my doctor goes for a peer to peer review with the medical director at my insurance company, they would probably pay around 10%.
So, I wish you the best of luck and I trudge on! Fingers crossed

I’m really glad to hear people are finally getting calls back and pursuing treatment! I’m still patiently waiting but you’re all in my prayers-best of luck!

Dana, I’m so sorry. Insurance can be really sucky. I’m always amazed at the stuff mine covers/doesn’t cover. I’m really sorry they will not approve this for you :(.

Mlmiller, I think you called before I did, so maybe you should try calling again (maybe every few days?) I think I called like 6 times. Maybe the message got erased by accident.

Hi, just reading this conversation thread (and new to the site). I just called them earlier this week, but what I’m getting is that I need to keep calling. I’ve had my chronic intractable migraine since November, so my neurologist wants me to go there.

Freckles I am so sorry about your chronic intractable migraine. And Melissa’s too. I know she said she’s had one for years. I’ve been lucky that my longest stretch so far was two months this Feb-April.

I just figure, I know before I had to leave work on sick leave, our message service was really wonky and had long recorded instructions and weird codes to enter to do whatever to the messages, and I would be in brain fog and accidentally do the wrong thing to messages. So one could get lost, you know? So I called a couple times a week just in case.

I have my first appointment in a week and a half at Jefferson. Does anyone know how likely inpatient treatment is? And if inpatient is recommended, how quickly it happens? I want to be prepared, and I would like to try inpatient and hope that is the result, just not sure what to expect. Can anyone share their experiences?

I went there once. The doctor wanted me hospitalized asap and made a point of telling admitting that they would work something out so we didn’t get stuck with a big bill and promised he would do all he can and not give up on me. I was told I would be admitted the following Monday and they would call we a specific time. Days passed and it got closer and closer with no phone call.

Finally my mother called them and was told very causally that my insurance wouldn’t pay for it. They didn’t have the courtesy to call and tell us this. My mom asked if it was possible to put it on the credit card but was assured by the nurse that it was too expensive and quoted an huge amount of what the cost was per day.

Considering how eager the doctor was to get me in we called and tried to find out what had happened. We made multiple calls but never heard back. The woman we left messages with assured us he was getting his messages.

84yrab, I am so sorry to hear about your experience with Jefferson! It saddens me that you were treated that way and weren’t able to get the help you were promised. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

My appointment with Dr. Nahas went very well (although a LONG DAY!). I’m going to be doing the inpatient at the end of July. They said to plan for a week at the hospital (though it may not be that long) and a week recovering at home. That’s a lot of time off work that I’m worried about! We have a VERY long drive (8 hours) to get there and will need to be in Philly the day before my hospitalization. Now I’m getting nervous about all of the drugs that will be running through my system! I’ve read everything I can on the inpatient stays, though, so I’m sure I’ll at least be prepared.
