Retinal Migraines?

Hi
I have always suffered migraine with aura. These episodes are incredibly familiar to me now. I will feel off, then my vision starts to feel funny, and slowly I will get scintillating patterns in my vision that grow and last 20-30 mins, then headache.

However, yesterday I had an episode which shook me up a lot and my doctor did not know what it could have been after an eye exam. I was sat at my computer and felt okay when suddenly my vision went very disturbed in one eye only. I ran to the bathroom and the vision returned after 1-2 minutes. There were no other symptoms I could tell, aside from causing me panic attack and a very bad night sleep.

I am wondering if this sounds like retina migraine or not at all? The doctor saw no evidence of damage in the eye or bleeding, and I don't think I had a stroke as I probably would have had numbness etc too?

Can anyone advise?

    1. Hi vwnpg1,

When we have new and/or different symptoms, it's important to report them to the doctor - I'm glad your eye exam was normal. As much as I wish I could tell you exactly what is going on with your head, only your doctor can do that. Now, having said that I can tell you some of the visual symptoms you describe can occur when having migraine with aura. Let me share information with you on this type of migraine; https://migraine.com/migraine-types/migraine-typical-aura/.

      I hope that helps,
      Nancy
