Best head massager recommendations?

My son has constant migraines and head massage seems to bring relief. Can anyone recommend a good electric massager that isn't one of those masks? Preferably one that he can control since the main moves from between his eyes to his temples, neck etc? He just had surgery for a deviated septum so fingers crossed that will help him! Thanks!

  1. I'm so sorry to hear that your son is dealing with constant migraine attacks, . How heartbreaking to help a child manage the pain and challenges of migraine. While I don't have personal experience with head/face massagers, I hope some of our community members can share if they have any recommendations. In the meantime, I wanted to share this article/video one of our health leaders put together about self massage for facial tension, https://migraine.com/video/release-facial-tension. I'm not sure if it would be applicable, or helpful in his situation, but I wanted to share it, just in case. How is his recovery going? -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    1. Thank you so much Christine, I sure do appreciate it and I will pass it along to him. He manages as best he can. He's 30 now and has lived with it for so many years, it's pretty much second nature to him. It's gotten to the point though that over the counter painkillers end up working at first, but then his headache comes back with a vengeance so he won't even take them anymore. The only thing that sometimes will work is eating and then running. Which of course he can't always do depending upon where and when the headaches occur.

      1. I'm glad he's found something that helps, despite the painkillers no longer working long-term. But yes, I can only imagine that being able to eat something and then run is not always possible depending on the situation. I am interested, though, that he finds running when a migraine hits to help ease the pain. Can I ask if the run needs to be a certain length? And, when he's finished running is the migraine more-or-less gone? -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    2. I think it's fairly short - just enough that he gets a good amount of oxygen and fresh air in his system. He's an architectural designer so stuck at a computer for many hours of the day.

      1. I wonder if the chemicals released in the brain while exercising are what's useful for him. Endorphins can be natural painkillers. And we've seen people share over and over that they crave certain foods when dealing with migraine. I wonder if he's going for his own comfort foods at those times. You're a good parent for being here and caring! -Melissa, team member
