Chocolate curing my migraine

Hello a strange thing, the only thing to get rid of my migraines is chocolate!
Over any pain killer, the problem is I have diabetes type 2!

So I cure one but upset the other.

I have tested to see if it was low sugar but not.

I have read about magnesium in chocolate could be helping and diabetes depletes this.

I also get shooting pain in my eye & my top teeth hurt , got one now actually..

Considering a supplement, just wondering if anyone else find chocolate cures migraine I know it can be a trigger as well

  1. Hi there- thanks so much for sharing what works for you and your conundrum of employing chocolate to assist with quieting your migraine attacks against the challenge of what that could potentially do to the underlying diabetes condition.

We do have a lot of resources on the relationship between chocolate and migraine here: https://migraine.com/search?s=chocolate. You'll see that some people find that chocolate helps to slow or stop a migraine in its tracks - perhaps due to the combination of sugar and/or caffeine punch that is delivered in the cocoa bean. For others, chocolate is a trigger and it must be avoided at all costs. For others still, it depends on the type of chocolate. Dark chocolate seems to be the preferred alternative for people with migraine.

Also, how would you say your love of chocolate links to prodrome cravings? You might find this piece interesting (and take a look at the many community member comments that follow it): https://migraine.com/living-migraine/food-cravings.

      1. Hi Melissa not so much to be honest but I do try have more caffine at times of attacks 😀

        1. That's interesting. We've heard of many people who reach for an extra dose of caffeine during the onset of an attack. Some swear that it helps to stave off the attack. Warmly- Holly -migraine.com team.
