Heart Palpitations Before or During Migraine?

My question today is does anyone else get heart palpitations before or during migraine?

I'm going for a heart checkup tomorrow to be sure that my heart is ok. I'm not sure if palpitations are migraine-related or not. Thanks.

  1. Hi Brody, thank you for your question! Heart palpitations are nothing to ignore and I'm glad you went to see your doctor about it! What did your doctor have to say? There are several medications used for treating migraine that have heart palpitations listed as a side effect. If you didn't go over it at your appointment, reviewing your medications with your doctor might be something worth considering. Please let us know how you are feeling and what you learned! Wishing you a gentle day. ~Allyson (Migraine.com team)

    1. Hi about the heart palpitations and medication we didn't even discuss that possibility. I will definitely be thinking of that though too. She decided to do a few tests on my heart since my brother is in ago right now. At times not always but at I get a little short of breath too. And she she has never heard of anyone say they get palpitations with migraines. So that was my checkup. Thanks for asking and replying.

      1. I'm sorry my brother is in Afib I meant to say in my earlier post.

    2. I don't know if it's palpitations per se, but I feel like my heart rate may be affected. I can't get a good pulse read (old fashioned fingers on wrist) during this time. I have spoken with a cardiologist a year and a half ago, who did an EKG, but I've never had a Holter monitor. He said my heart seemed fine. I've mentioned it to the NP at my neurologist's office, and she said she has heard this from other patients. I agree that you should definitely raise this with your dr.

      1. Thank you for your reply. The Dr did say my caratids sounded clear, no heart murmur. So that was encouraging. I see my neurologist in September so I'll bring it up to him also. It comes and goes. Sometimes smooth as silk. I often wonder too if it's panic attacks. So many thoughts.

    3. I was having these from time to time as well. They would just happen out of the blue while I was sitting. I started taking a B multi-vitamin with B12 and it seemed to help me. At that time I was trying elimination diets so I think things were just not balanced.

      1. I just started eliminating some foods also. Trying to eat healthier. Thank you for your response. Hopefully this will make a difference.

      2. Hi Brody! Its good to hear that you are eating more healthy foods. I wish you the best in figuring out whether you have foods that are migraine triggers.
