Lightweaver: From 24/7 migraine with aura at this level for 7 years now, it is my brain seeing the aura not my eyes, as it were, because my eyes can be open or closed, and I am awake or asleep. I've had aura since I was a child, and flashing and flying lights, and also steady halogen-bright lights have always been components of my migraine aura.
Nothing makes the aura go away, but I can tell you what helped. (1) My friend who fixes TVs said that all flat-screen TVs have either LED or fluorescent lighting. I didn't watch much TV programming, but I would leave the nice photos from the casting device running throughout the day. Now I just don't turn on the TV. If I want to watch something, it's on my laptop. I've been amazed at the difference. (2) Have you noticed that especially performance-type shows use lighting effects, and that especially commercials use fast changing pictures? Instead, I will watch little clips of something on YouTube, and as soon as anything my brain interprets as flashing lights comes on, it goes off. That helps a lot as well. (3) I have stopped using any medicine that increases the aura effects, either by speeding up the flying shapes and lights, or by brightening them.
Hope this helps!
