How It Started

It started when I hit my head during playing basketball... before this I had headaches but after hitting I started to experience aura and vision changes. First, it was spots and then my entire vision got filled with shining and pulsating waves.

And after about an hour my headache started.

Now I don't experience vision changes but headaches.

  1. Hi there - Thanks for posting and sharing your story. What symptoms do you have when you get your headaches? There are many types of migraines and headaches, and perhaps if you could share with us some of your symptoms, it would help us provide some helpful feedback for you.

If you're interested in some more information about post-traumatic headaches, which can commonly be caused by sports related injuries, you can check out this article here: https://migraine.com/headache-types/post-traumatic-headaches.

Additionally, while I'm not a doctor and cannot diagnose your headaches/condition, it sounds like at your time of injury you had a migraine with aura. Check out this article to see if that's accurate and if it resonates with you: https://migraine.com/migraine-types/migraine-with-aura. Only a doctor can confirm if it was truly migraine with aura though.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and I look forward to hearing more about what your headaches are like for you. We have a lot of helpful information here on Migraine.com.

    Warmly,

    1. Sounds like you've really been suffering since hitting your head. Sorry this happened to you. Hoping it gets better soon. I ran across a really interesting article on AMF that might interest you about post-concussion migraines and post-traumatic headaches. Hope it helps. https://americanmigrainefoundation.org/resource-library/concussion-and-post-traumatic-headache/ Rebecca (comm advc)

      1. I'm so sorry you experienced that! Migraine with aura is definitely my most common and frightening migraine. The sudden disorientation is no joke, and I've been fortunate enough to have been home for most of these. After aura appears, I'll always try and sleep off the incoming pain as much as I can. The residual stiffness, lingering pain, and feeling like my head is in a fishbowl, are way more tolerable than the straight pulsating migraine head-pain that attacks me. I hope you're feeling much better as of late and I'm glad that it seems like your auras have slowed down. I hope you've spoken or met with a specialist regarding your symptoms and have seen improvement! You're not alone in this and we're here for you. Sending positive vibes your way ~ Sawyer (team member)
