Infusions

Hello everyone, i was just wanting to know if anyone has done any type of infusion for their migraines ? if so did it work and what types. Thanks

  1. Hi liley85,

Great question!! Thank you for reaching out to our community.

    There are many types of infusions that can be used to break a nasty migraine cycle. Some medications include, but are not limited to;
    Brand name Decadron, or dexamethasone
    Brand name Depacon, valproate sodium
    Brand name Inapsine, or droperidol
    Brand name DHE-45 or dihydroergotamine
    Brand name Keppra or levetiracetam
    ketamine
    lidocaine
    Brand name Phenegran or promethazine
    Brand name Regaln, or metochlopramide
    propofol
    Brand name Ultram or tramadol

When I'm in a bad migraine attack cycle, I've had infusions of magnesium sulfate, dexamethasone, something for nausea and torodol. Here is an article on possible side effects; https://migraine.com/blog/infusions-be-prepared-for-possible-side-effects/.
    I hope that helps!

    1. Hi Liley! I get infusions as well. My migraines are chronic and intractable. Triptans unfortunately are not curently working for me. I typically receive at least two days of magnesium and depacon, and if it's a really impossible to break migraine, also DHE and zofran. Different "cocktails" seem to work for different brains, so I know I had to sort of experiment there at the beginning with the first few. My doctor's order was for like eight drugs, and we tried different combinations until we found what worked.

      1. I found a place that does Toradol, zafran and magnesium with a B-complex. Any thoughts on this?

        1. With infusions, different cocktails work for different people. With that one, you have Toradol-painkiller, Zofran-nausea, and mag-muscle relaxant. It probably just depends how your brain responds to that particular cocktail. I know I had to try a few and see what worked and what didn't. Wish I had a better answer.
