Is constipation connected with migraines?

I suffer with chronic hard to manage constipation is it connected with my chronic hard to manage migraines?

  1. , that is a great question. Constipation can accompany migraine and many of the medications we take to manage our migraine disease. GI issues are not uncommon. My husband takes magnesium supplements and fiber gummies to combat his constipation issues. Here is a link to an article that you might find helpful that speaks about GI issues.

    1. Great question !

As mentioned it's not uncommon to have this issues when we live with migraine. It may be in part to medications we take, or the migraine process itself. Many of us deal with something called gastric stasis or gastroparesis - when the stomach emptiness more slowly than normal. Here is more information on this; https://migraine.com/migraine-types/gastric-stasis-migraine.

      I've dealt with constipation on and off for most of my life and the best thing I've found is something called Yakima fruit paste. Let me share the recipe with you here;
Yakima Valley Anti Constipation Fruit Paste
      1 lb pitted prunes
4 ozs senna tea leaves (at health foods store)
      1 lb raisins
      1 lb figs
      1 cup lemon juice
      1. Prepare tea; use about 2 1/2 cups boiled water, add to tea leaves and steep for 5 minutes.
      2. Strain tea and remove tea leaves.
      3. Place 2 cups of tea, or amount left, in large pot.
      4. Add all of the fruit to the tea.
      5. Boil fruit and tea for 15 - 20 minutes, until soft.
      6. Remove from heat and add lemon juice. Allow to cool.
      7. Use hand mixer/blender or food processor to turn fruit and tea mix into a paste.
      8. Place in glass jars or Tupperware and place in freezer (paste will not freeze but will keep forever in freezer also very long in fridge).
      DOSAGE: 1 - 2 Tablespoons per day
It was a lifesaver when I was on methadone for 3.5 years! Of course that's another story!

Recently I've found All Bran "Buds" and magnesium to be VERY beneficial!
