Living with migraines and not knowing how to get rid of them

I've been having migraines maybe close to 20 years now and I've tried several medications without them working. Doctor suggested botox but insurance never covered it. Now, I live in constant pain and it interrupts my everyday activities I like to do.

  1. I hear how much you have been struggling with migraine, Turtlboy. It is frustrating how deeply migraine can interfere with life and the ability to engage in activities you enjoy. You are not alone struggling with this reality. Did you and your doctor ever try to appeal the decision of the insurance company not to cover Botox? While all companies and cases are different, sometimes companies will reverse a decision on appeal, given enough evidence from your doctor of it being a necessary treatment. This article provides some further information that might be of interest:

I would also encourage you to discuss what other treatments might be possible with your doctor. There are many different options and combinations that might be helpful in managing your symptoms. This article gives an overview of the current treatments that are prescribed for treating migraine:

    1. Turtlboy, I tried botox but even with insurance I still had to spend about $350. I tried it once and it cleared up some lines in my forehead temporarily but that was it. I was told I should have tried it again but I really didn't want to spend another $350. I have spent so much money on ER visits & other tests that I was financially drained. I do know that some migraine sufferers have experienced relief so maybe I will try it again in the future but for now I am relying on prescriptions & otc migraine meds which unfortonately I have to take daily.

      1. Dude, I can feel your pain I'm suffering from migraines for the past 12year, I know how painful it is sometimes it's paining continuously for more than a week I try almost everything but nothing works for me. 🙁

        1. ,

I am sorry to hear how much you struggle with migraine, and how hard it has been to find an appropriate treatment. I'm guessing you have been through a lot of doctors in that time, too? Have you ever been able to see a board certified headache specialist? I know they do not work for everyone, but sometimes they can make a difference when others cannot. Neurologists are fine doctors of course, and often they are the first people you see after your primary care doctor if you struggle with migraine. But neurologists also see patients with many different conditions, so the benefit of the certified headache specialist is that it is their specialty, and it is literally all that they do. I wanted to share a little bit about how they are different, and how to find one if you decide to seek it out: https://migraine.com/blog/really-find-headache-specialist/. Wishing you some relief ahead. ~Melanie (team member)
