Sudden temporary memory loss and brain fog

Hello everyone,
I've been suffering with migraines for years. Friday I was feeling extremely sleepy and fatigued, which is often a prodrome for me. But then I had a new symptom.

I was taking a shower, then the next thing I knew I was in my closet wondering why I was there. I couldn't remember getting out of the shower and drying off or stepping into my closet. While I was in my closet I started sorting dirty clothes, but I couldn't remember which color clothes went in which laundry bag.

I did not have a migraine at the time. It really scared me, so I became very anxious. I felt disconnected and weird the rest of the day and part of the following day. It's now Sunday and I woke up with a migraine today and still feel disconnected and fuzzy.

The memory loss and disconnected brain fog feeling is completely new for me. I will contact my neurologist in the morning, but I wanted to reach out to you all and see if you've experienced anything like this before. If it wasn't for the risk of COVID, I would have gone to the ER. However, that seems more dangerous than not going. Especially since I'm immunocompromised.

  1. Hi MissMich,
I have experienced these same symptoms before. The experience can be quite disconcerting. The scariest time for me was when I drove almost 100 miles. I remember leaving home, the beginning of the trip. However, for the life of me I couldn't remember how I arrived at my destination. Other times were similar to yours or starting to clean the kitchen and then be watching TV. Not remembering actually cleaning or turning on the TV. These symptoms haven't happened in a while, thank goodness. Please let us know what your neurologist tells you.

    1. Wow Rita, that sounds very disconcerting. Thank you for sharing your experiences, it puts my mind at ease a little. I have been consulting Dr. Google and was starting to worry that it could have been a seizure. I hope that it is only migraine related and nothing more serious. Did you tell your doctor about your episodes? If so, what did they say? Did you feel weird after the episodes for a while?
      Thanks again.
