Possible migraine trigger?

Migraines run in my family, both my mother and siblings of my father were diagnosed with the condition. My sister and I have very different frequencies, she around five or six a year while I get that many in a month.
She recently relayed to me an episode of ocular migraine that seemed to result from a bee or wasp sting. Has anyone else experienced this?

  1. - Thank you so much for telling us a bit about your familial migraine history. Migraine definitely can have a hereditary component so it would be interesting to learn about others in your family who may have it as well. Sorry to hear about the frequency of your migraine attacks. Do you feel good about your treatment protocol?
As to the bee/wasp sting as a trigger, that is very interesting to hear about. I searched our site to see if anyone else had mentioned a bee/wasp sting and getting a migraine attack and couldn't find anything. And while I've not heard of a direct correlation between the two, there is a lot of talk about histamine (in food) as a trigger for migraine: https://migraine.com/search?s=histamine%20trigger. When someone is allergic to a bee sting, their immune system overreacts to the venom by releasing histamine. This makes me wonder if there's a tie between the two. But, truly, I have no idea - just taking a guess! I appreciate you raising it.

    1. Thank you for your quick response and search of this site for info on my question, I will relay your thoughts to my sister.
My treatment is presently at a standstill due to allergic and severe neurological reactions from most of the currently prescribed medications. As for my treatment presently, I'm getting by with meds that are normally prescribed for tension headaches along with ice and heat therapy. Sincerely, Al

      1. That's certainly frustrating when you're limited with medications/treatments due to negative reactions. It's good to hear that your doctor was able to get creative and find some alternative options for you. Wishing you the best in this journey.
