50 Years & Older Living With Migraine

Migraine with cyclic vomiting

  • By GramNeNe

I will be 72 in a few days. I’ve had migraines for as long as I can remember but before ever being diagnosed. When my family was still at home, I always wondered why it was that I was the only one who was getting sick so often. Once my headache starts I also start vomiting – continuously. Thankfully my headaches don’t last more than one or two days. Most often, once the headache starts to leave,I am slowly able to start a sip of fluids.. There are times the vomiting does not stop and I have to make a trip to Urgent Care for rehydration fluids. That seems to stop the cycle of vomiting thankfully.
I am wondering if anyone else has a similar kind of experience?

    Hi GramNeNe,

Great question! Thank you for reaching out and asking. I’ve not experienced this before, but it certainly sounds awful. Hopefully others will be along shortly to share their story with you.

In the meantime, I would encourage you to seek out help from your doctor to get an accurate diagnosis. Once you have an accurate diagnosis, you’ll be able to learn about your particular type of migraine and/or headache disorder and get the proper treatment.

    Best of luck!

    Hi GramNeNe….

I am so sorry that you are having to go through this! I have Chronic MIgraine Syndrome and often experience nausea and vomitting..

My doctor has prescribed an anti-nausea medication I actually take daily as part of my daily preventative regime. I would check with my doctor to see what they would recommend for you. As my Migraine Specialist felt very strongly that the nausea must be controlled very quickly if the migraine is going to get controlled.

    Hope you feel better!
