Why Prednisone?

  • By JGreed

Gabapentin isn’t working, I told my doctor I wanted to ease off of it and try something else. I left a message at his office and they called back and said he’s sending a prescription for prednisone in to my Pharmacy but no explanation. Why would he prescribed Prednisone for migraines?

    Hi JGreed,

Thank you for your question, it’s a good one!

As steroid dose pack is often used to break a migraine cycle. I’ve used them in the past with pretty good results. We have an article you may find helpful regarding this here; https://migraine.com/living-migraine/the-catch-all-treatment-prednisone/.

Gabapentin can be used for migraine prevention, but doesn’t work for everyone. Try not to lose hope – there are over 100 medications and supplements that can be used to treat migraine and many of us go through quite a few before we find a combination of medications that work. Let me share this information on migraine prevention medications; https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-preventives-start/.

I hope that helps. Will you let me know how your doing?

    Nancy
