Hallucinations

I’ve had aura migraines for over 50 years, and have always controlled them with 600 mg of ibuprofen, but after having Covid last October (also fully vaccinated), my headaches started coming on without auras. I was apparently overmedicating to deal with the headaches and my fibromyalgia, because after being under a lot of stress and flying internationally, I had an aura migraine that didn’t respond to any medication, caused me (for the first time) to have garbled speech and not be able to write. I was taken by ambulance to a German neurological hospital that specialized in strokes (what they thought I may be having). The 2nd day I was there, I woke up with this weird hallucination that started when I woke up, lasted all day and was gone when I woke up the next day. There were pink/red lines everywhere in the room…like jigsaw pieces…over the ceiling, walls, cabinets, floor, etc. they were small in the beginning of the day and got broader as the day went on, and the floor changed to no longer be patterned, but like a small child got hold of a crayon and started scribbling. Also, my black pants had royal blue lines, my light blue shirt had yellow lines. I really want to talk to someone about this and find out if anyone else ever had this experience? I didn’t have a stroke; the doctors concluded it was migraine.

  1. Hopefully someone else will comment. I've never had an experience like this, but it sounds very scary. I did find an article that you may find interesting. https://migraine.com/faqs/what-causes-visual-aura April - Migraine.com Team

    1. Hi. How scary to have that happen overseas! I'm glad you made it through. We can't give medical advice here for your own safety, but generally speaking, your experience of migraine can change throughout your lifetime. I've seen people share that their typical aura has lots of lines and patterns. I'm curious about what your normal auras are like if you feel like sharing. Regardless, it's always good to check in with your doctor for anything new or alarming. How are you doing now? -Melissa, migraine.com team
