Has anyone heard of a link between meningitis and migraines?

Has anyone heard of a link between meningitis and migraines? I suffered from a bad case of viral meningitis 2 years ago and have had migraines ever since.

  1. Thank you for your question. I am so sorry to hear that you have been experiencing migraine attacks for the past two years. We sure know just how challenging this must be to manage. As you wait for possible feedback from the community, I thought I would share an article we have on this topic - https://migraine.com/headache-types/meningitis-encephalitis-headaches/. Additionally, another member in our community shared a similar story that you may find useful - https://migraine.com/stories/meningitisencephalitis-headaches/. Hope some of this information is helpful. Wishing you all the best, Joanna (Migraine.com Team)

    1. I can certainly tie an increase in migraine frequency and severity to meningitis. I now know I had migraines all my life, but they were nowhere near as frequent or debilitating as they are now. In 2007, I, too, had viral meningitis. Recovery took some time, and I was not diagnosed with migraines until 2009. But I am convinced there was a connection between my meningitis and migraines.

Thanks for posting. I am anxious to hear of other migraineurs have had meningitis.

      Bill
