Anyone else experience worse migraines & symptoms since mask mandate?

Has anyone else experienced worse migraines, more exasperated symptoms, greater frequency, and medications not as effective?

My daughter and I have started comparing notes. Just curious if anyone else is experiencing this or just us. This is not political.

  1. Hi @shana,

Thank you for reaching out to our community with your question. We've heard from many who are having similar issues, I'm sorry to say. I'm sure they will be along to share their story with you.

I do wonder if it's a matter of mask adjustment in some cases. I know some can be tight behind our ears. I just saw something about a mask adjuster, something that goes around the back of the head. Maybe something to consider?

Let me know what you think!

    1. I have done the adjustments and also made my own so I had fitted properly to my face. This was all to no avail. Even tried all kinds of masks. I can not get a doctor to write me exempt for medical issues with a mask. They treat me like I am lying and making it up. So I jave just quit going to places where they make it mandatory. Unfortunately my other health issues are being effected because I can not receive the care I need. If masks work for others then why would it matter if I can't? They are protected but I am not.

  2. I am definitely having more migraines since the mask requirement went into effect. I work 12 hour shifts in a place where we are now required to wear masks all the time except when we are eating. I had previously gone up to 8 months between migraines for several years. Now I'm having 2 to 7 a month. I also have Iritis/Uveitis and the breath blowing over my eyes from the mask are making it almost unmanageable. I recently received the first of two vaccines for covid and am hoping it works the way it says. I'm ready to get rid of the masks. It's a struggle and I sympathize with anyone having issues during this time.

    1. @shana,
I agree with you that my migraines increased suddenly during the lockdown and mask mandate. I didn't think to point the finger at masks themselves, though I don't have your same eye trouble. I chalked it up to the heightened fear, anxiety, and uncertainty. Also, now I drink far less water than I'm used to because of the risks in removing the mask to drink in public. I look forward to the day when it's safe for us all to remove the masks! I'm sure you've done a lot of research, the head grabber for earpieces squeezes my head too much. But friend of mine has had good results from using one of those bird cage inserts to move the mask away from the mouth a bit. You might give that a go and see if it helps? Good Luck
