neck pain triggers migraines

I have had migraines over 50 years. I also have a bad neck from accidents. I am really suffering between my neck hurting and migraines. The Nebraska cold weather does not help. When my neck hurts it often triggers migraines. I can not take ibuprofen, I been taking Tylenol along with migraine triptans when needed, but Tylenol just don't do anything for neck pain. Heat does help. Any suggestions of other over the counter meds that work for you, that 's not in ibuprofen family?

  1. Hi I'm so sorry to hear about your neck pain and migraine, especially with the cold Nebraska weather...You're certainly not alone here in struggling to deal with weather as a trigger. Since heat helps, I'm curious if you've considered massage therapy? Some community members here have found helpful for neck pain and migraine. I'll include a link to that for you here: https://migraine.com/complementary-and-alternative-therapies/massage.

In terms of over the counter options...I've heard others here sharing some mixed results from magnesium supplements. Here’s an link that dives into how magnesium might help: https://migraine.com/living-migraine/supplement-cocktail-worked. Of course - with all of these, definitely be sure to consult with your doctor to see if it would work within your treatment plan. I hope you find some more relief soon. Please do keep us updated!

    1. I see that Jake shared the exact article that I was about to send you. It's fantastic, so I hope you find it helpful.

I feel for you with the neck pain. Here are two things that I use and found helpful, not medication but still helpful to alleviate any tension in the neck and upper back.
This is a neck massager that you can use yourself.
