Obesity & Migraine

Hi.

Was wondering if anyone has experienced an increase in migraines when their weight increased. Also if there is a documented link between obesity and migraines.

Thanks

  1. Hi ,

Great question! Thank you for reaching out to us. Weight has been linked to putting us at an increased risk in migraine. This is a tough one for me, having dealt with weight issues all my life. I know plenty of people who don't have this issue and have migraine disease. Ok, enough of my soapbox!! Let me share our information on this topic with you here; https://migraine.com/blog/weight-and-your-migraines/

Something I did want to mention is there is something called intracranial hypertension, formerly called pseudotumor cerebri. This condition seems to worse, for some, with weight issues. I've been diagnosed with this and seem to be a bit better having lost a bit of weight. I'm not suggesting this is what you have, rather, something to consider and speak with your doctor about if you feel it's appropriate. Let me share info with you on this here; https://migraine.com/?s=psedotumor.

Will you let me know what you think?

    1. I know this answer is going to help much but with exercise being a trigger for a lot of us we tend to gain weight. Not not sure if weight has been a main trigger for me but I don’t think it’s helped much. I’ve been trying to exercise more to loose some but I’m back to messed up if I do, messed up if I don’t

      1. ,

I totally hear and relate to this catch-22, needing to exercise for health, but losing health (by triggering a migraine) if I exercise. I wish I had words of wisdom here, but it is a real struggle for me too. Thanks for taking the time to add your thoughts.
