Strange Migraine?

I am a 44 year old female and I have regular migraines that I take aimovig, botox, and topomax for as well as supplements. In the past 5 mos Ive had 3 strange episodes that my neurologist, headache specialist, nor my physical therapists know what they are. Episodes begin with droopy paralysis below right eye. Nystagmus in right eye then moves to left. Within 7 min I have lost all of my balance. I become silly, slurred speech, loose strength in my legs, and randomly an arm or leg will thrash. I do not have head pain or pain any where. I cant pinpoint any of my typical migraine symptoms when it has happened. Once it started while sleeping. I woke up with the nystagmus already starting. No stress. The other 2 times i was under stress. Ive had 2 sets of brain imaging which was normal. testing for a BPV which was normal. and consultation with my headache specialist who said he did not think those were vestibular migraines and I’m already receiving treatment for them anyway as it is the same as my other migraines treatment. My neurologist wants to send me to the Mayo clinic. Any other similar experiences or thoughts?

  1. Hi ,
Thank you for reaching out to us. It sounds like a more through work up may be necessary, good to hear your doctors are thinking that as well.

Some of the things you've mentioned could be associated with migraine, others not so much.

I wish I had more information for you. Good luck - will you keep me posted?
