Update on migraines&vaccine + strange symptoms?

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to take a minute and give a quick update about my migraines (worsened by Covid vaccine), as I've seen many questions regarding this topic.

Since getting my first AZ Covid shot in April and second Moderna shot in July, my clinical condition as a migraneur had got to a point where this summer + fall were a living hell. I had never experienced anything more painful, and I've been a chronic migraneur for more than 6 years now.

I was under Emgality treatment, which I was hoping would help me get rid of Topamax, but reality is I was forced to get back on Topiramate despite its terrible side effects - simply because, it works. I've been back on it for a month and a half, and got my first Botox injections a month ago. Out of despair, I'm also trying out the keto diet treatment.

I feel like the situation is slowly (very slowly) getting a litte better. Topamax definitely works for me, I feel it has been helping my migraines. I was eating way too many sugars and carbos, so the keto/ low carb diet could be helping too. As of Botox, I guess it's too early to say.

Also, I've been experiencing some strange symptoms which I had never suffered from pre- vaccine. Dizziness, vertigo, nausea/ stomach sickness. Do they sound familiar to anyone? I'm going insane. I don't understand whether it's my migraine symptoms, some keto side effects, some drugs side effects or what.

Thank you as always and best wishes to everyone,
Claire

  1. Hi ,
Thank you for the update! I'm sorry you are struggling so and wanted to let you know you're not alone.
The symptoms you've described may be part of a migraine attack. Many of us experience these. It's not uncommon for our migraine patterns and symptoms to change over time. The thing is it's important to check in with the doctor when this happens so he/she can make sure everything checks out OK.
Will you keep us posted? Hoping today is a low pain day, Nancy Harris Bonk, Patient Advocate/Moderator

    1. hi there. It’s interesting that you mentioned dizziness and vertigo. I have noticed a worsening of these symptoms too my second vaccination. After my Pfizer booster my migraines have been particularly bad too. I hope you start to feel a little better soon

      1. Sorry to hear about the troubling symptoms including dizziness and vertigo. They can be paralyzing. Are these new symptoms to you? If so, we'd encourage you to report them to your doctor. Thinking of you. - Holly (migraine.com team).

    2. Hi Holly. Thanks for reaching out. My symptoms aren’t new although they have been more severe.

      1. So sorry the symptoms have become more pronounced and troublesome. Do you have a good partnership with a migraine specialist/neurologist with whom you can discuss the evolving nature of your condition? Warmly- Holly (migraine.com team).
