Weird Migraine Symptoms

Have you ever experienced what you thought was a weird or surprising symptom and wondered if others with migraine have experienced it too?

Share your symptom(s) here and see if others experience it as well!

  1. This is a good topic, . I have had migraines for a long time and never realized that the feeling of being off balance or dizzy was a migraine symptom. Eventually being diagnosed with vestibular migraines within the past few years, it was a surprise I was having migraine episodes. I thought it was just a sinus or inner ear issue as I had had 2 sinus surgeries and currently manage TMJ. Wonder if others feel their symptoms weird. Thoughtfully, Rebecca (team member)

    1. My symptoms have changed over the years but most often for me is constant yawning for around 20 minutes and a cold nose, tell me one is approaching

      1. Wow- that's wild and it is actually a fairly classic migraine prodrome symptom (a signal of a migraine attack that's about to unfold). So you are not alone in this! You may be interested in reading more about it here: https://migraine.com/blog/yawn-yawn-yawn. I'm not sure why it happens- perhaps a need for oxygen? It's interesting, whatever the case. Thanks for sharing! Warmly - Holly (team member)

    2. Oh and my super sensitivities to sound. I can hear the grass grow

      1. Ah- so your sensitivities grow in intensity when you're in the throes of a migraine? That's kind of cool! It's like you've got superpowers! Actually, in this video, we talk about the heightened senses that come with migraine as superpowers: https://migraine.com/video/secret-superpower. You'd fit right in! Warmly - Holly (team member)

    3. My entire body aches and the knuckles on both my hands get stiff and feel like they need to be cracked. All my migraines and body aches minimize or intensify at the same rate. This has been happening for MANY years (since 2nd grade and I'm 57). In all those years I have never been able to determine which starts first.

      1. Whoa. That's a new one for me. The body aches, I've heard of before- but specifically, the knuckles getting stiff and in need of cracking is new to me - perhaps a type of swelling of the whole body? I've no idea, but it's fascinating. Also that it's unclear which comes first. I'm with you on attacks starting in the second grade, by the way- and I'm now 53. Thanks so much for sharing. Warmly - Holly (team member)

      2. Not a doctor, but that sounds like some kind of inflammatory response. Definitely unusual, though over my years here I have learned that almost anything is possible with migraine. Just curious, did you ever explore the possibility of an autoimmune condition? -Melissa, team member
