Weird Migraine Symptoms

Have you ever experienced what you thought was a weird or surprising symptom and wondered if others with migraine have experienced it too?

Share your symptom(s) here and see if others experience it as well!

  1. This is a good topic, . I have had migraines for a long time and never realized that the feeling of being off balance or dizzy was a migraine symptom. Eventually being diagnosed with vestibular migraines within the past few years, it was a surprise I was having migraine episodes. I thought it was just a sinus or inner ear issue as I had had 2 sinus surgeries and currently manage TMJ. Wonder if others feel their symptoms weird. Thoughtfully, Rebecca (team member)

    1. Thanks for sharing. I do need a headache specialist among other profession help. I just experiences 3 days without migraine. I woke this morning to the spike stuck in my head and my hair seeming ache. Its a burning pain and my hair seems to be pulled tight enough to break off at the scalp. My neurologist isn't taking my migraines seriously. Once diagnosed as untrackable / chronic migraine and nothing that I’d tired having worked, the doctor’s focus has been on my dystonia for which Botox injections do help. I think its time to find a headache specialist.

Rebecca C, thanks again for your reply.

    2. it does sound like a neurologist specialising in headache is a good route to explore. The scalp pain is not uncommon, and it's often considered a form of allodynia :https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-allodynia-and-central-sensitization

Is it easy for you to change neurologists (or get a second opinion) where you live?

  2. My symptoms have changed over the years but most often for me is constant yawning for around 20 minutes and a cold nose, tell me one is approaching

    1. Wow- that's wild and it is actually a fairly classic migraine prodrome symptom (a signal of a migraine attack that's about to unfold). So you are not alone in this! You may be interested in reading more about it here: https://migraine.com/blog/yawn-yawn-yawn. I'm not sure why it happens- perhaps a need for oxygen? It's interesting, whatever the case. Thanks for sharing! Warmly - Holly (team member)

    2. I have been struggling with migraines for 40years and have just started noticing the yawning.

  3. Oh and my super sensitivities to sound. I can hear the grass grow

    1. You should get a job with the meteorology division of your local station! Joking aside my partner is also very sensitive to barometric pressure changes. They are tricky to avoid, unless you move to a place where the climate is more stable. Are you able to head them off at the pass before they take hold? Warmly, Tracy (Team Member)

    2. Me too re: living in NC and me too re: forecasting hurricanes when they are states away! Pleased to "meet" a kindred spirit! Warmly - Holly (team member)

  4. My entire body aches and the knuckles on both my hands get stiff and feel like they need to be cracked. All my migraines and body aches minimize or intensify at the same rate. This has been happening for MANY years (since 2nd grade and I'm 57). In all those years I have never been able to determine which starts first.

    1. I have the exact same symptoms! My knuckles and bones crack like crazy!

    2. I have heard it called 'snap/crackle'pop'! Is yours painful at all?

      Best wishes, Tracy (Team Member)
