Work environment

I had a job training for a new position, cashier/customer service and during the training I noticed that the background music that is being played all day is too loud for me to the point that it's annoying and will at some point trigger a migraine.

Am I being too picky about this work condition or does one feel that it's a valid reason. For me it's valid but my spouse says i'm being picky.
Any thoughts?

  1. @pennych, personally, I don't think you are being too picky. Too much background noise would be a migraine trigger for me, and I would find it annoying. It is important to consider a job's environment when deciding whether to work there. If it's a full-time job, you will spend a good part of your day there. Are you considering looking for another job? Let us know your thoughts.

    1. It will be an extra income job, maybe 8 - 10 extra hours to my existing job. i find it hard to look for work because now I'm being more conscious of what I will and will not tolerate. Previous office work had a lot of stress and time sensitive work projects with bosses that would yell at their employees and due to a previous burnout, I'm being more picky or maybe reluctant to accept positions where issues are not to my liking.

    2. @pennych,
I'm sorry you have been dealing with unreasonable and cruel bosses. I don't blame you for being more selective in your job choice. It sounds like you have a lot going on with a full-time job and migraine disease. I think if you really need a part-time job, then choose one that won't trigger a migraine. That seems that it would add more stress to your life.

  2. pennych, As Peggy said, deciding whether to work for an employer or not must be based on many factors. Since the job you are looking at will be for extra income, I think factoring in anything that will make the position easier on your health is acceptable. You could arm yourself with some simple preventative measures, such as earplugs that reduce ambient noise or anything else that makes a difference in the possible impacts on you. You are looking for a migraine-friendly position, so I encourage you to decide what will benefit your health. You have the power to make that choice. Let us know how things go moving forward.
