Intermittent Leg Pain & Migraines

  • By Autumn Sparrow

It seems that every 4 years or so my migraines seem to take on new forms and I’ve recently realized that I’m going through another one of these phases. Most recently I’ve had symptoms that even my neurologist didn’t think we’re migraines except that he’s eliminated other possible causes (amarosis fugax, ptosis, extreme vertigo, slurred speech, loss of consciousness etc.)

For the last 6 months I’ve been getting these crippling intermittent leg pains the my primary dr can’t explain and they aren’t responding to treatment. I’ve started to notice that the pain seems to be the worst right before and a few days after my more severe migraine attacks and I’m starting to wonder if there might be a connection between the two.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

    Janet,

I’m doing really well. I think my preventative is finally working, this last month I only had 15 , compared to 24 in July and daily attacks the months prior & my auras aren’t nearly as severe or frequent. Still a lot but it’s makes a huge difference having days where you genuinely enjoy every moment and aren’t just pushing through. I actually feel human again. 🙂 The thing with my leg is another story but eventually they’ll get to the bottom of it.

Hi I’m new on here, really am at the end of my tether. Been having migraines for 8 years, dizzy, pain on left side of head, pins and needles in left hand and foot. Recently I’ve had no headaches but leg pain for 3 weeks, I’ve taken everything from nurofen to diazepam, nothing makes it better. My doctoc said it’s migraine aura and to stop thinking about it, please anyone got any answers?

      Lynn70,
I just recently started to get leg pain as well. I was increasing a new medication when it began so I was able to tie it to that. You may want to look at your meds and check the side effects. Drugs.com is a great source to learn about your meds.

I’ve also noticed that if I take an OTC sleep aid, my legs will twitch all night long- not giving me the sleep relief I need.

But definitely see a specialist if it doesn’t get any better.

    Hi Lynn

I wish I had an answer for you. You may want to get a a 2nd opinion. My leg kept gettin worse so I went to an orthopedic surgeon who diagnosed me with a miniscus tear. Sometimes I think that all of our symptoms can get lumped together under migraine, which may not always be correct. I hope you find some relief!

    Hi

Sorry it’s been a while since I updated everyone. The leg pain turned out to be an articulate cartilage tear in my knee. 6 months later same type of tear in S1 and a 22mm tarlov cyst in S2- spent a year with specialists – RA ruled out repeatedly. The tingling in my arms & legs has led to my hands and feet feeling like they’ve been smashed by hammers (not carpal tunnel ( nerve damage in both legs. We think the tears are due to uncontrolled muscle- skeletal spasms. They still aren’t completely sure what’s up ( dystonia is what my Neuro says but others say no). MS has been ruled out for the most part.

Lease don’t just take migraine as the definite cause of all your symptoms. My ortho surgeon freaked when he hear what they were blindly lumping under migraine. As my mom says “you can have ticks & fleas”.
