Everyday migraine

Does anybody else out there have a migraine every day? I was in a car accident in 2002. I had never had a headache and my entire life before I woke up in ICU with a migraine that has never went away. Kaiser put me through every medical procedure every medication, every outside of Kaiser i.e. Acupuncture copying Botox, herbal medications, herbal lotions healing stones. I’ve been through everything that I can think of and that Kaiser could do. I’ve been to specialist to other hospitals and they can’t figure out why. I have had electrodes inserted into my brain to monitor the pain that my brain is putting out and the neurologist can’t even understand how I am functioning every day without staying in bed all day. I am grateful that my husband understands and I have a great support system. My primary understands my neurologist understands. The only medication that help me is Toradol promethazine Imitrex and Norco and at that it’s never gone. I know I’m not the only one out here that’s like this, I would just like to Talk to people that are like me.

  1. Hi
I'm so sorry you are dealing with extended migraine pain and hear how frustrated you are. This is a long time to be in daily pain without any answers. It's so important to have a good support network and I'm happy to hear your husband is supportive. Please know you're not alone in living with migraine, we're here for you!
Try not to lose hope and I understand how difficult this is as it sounds like you've been through so much with this head pain. There are over 100 over medications, supplements, devices, complementary therapies and lifestyle modifications that can be used to manage migraine disease and most of us are on a combination of these, I sure am. If you add up the combinations of things, this number goes up dramatically.

When we start new medications it can take up to 90 days (at the therapeutic dose) before we notice improvement. During this time potential side effects may lessen as well. If we don't give each medication a fair trial, we'll never know which one would have be the one to work.
It sounds like it's time to reach out to a doctor who is a true expert in treating migraine and headache disease. Let me explain - general neurologists may be fine doctors however it's difficult for them to be experts in one disease state as they treat so many including stroke, MS, epilepsy, Parkinson's and more. Migraine/headache experts have extra board certification in headache medicine (not all neurologists have this extra certification) and treat migraine and headache all day, every day. They can have a huge impact in our care. I can tell you first hand these experts have made a positive difference in my quality of life. Let me share some of our articles on this topic:

  2. Hi - thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience with migraines. Has any doctor suggested you look into the Reed procedure? I'm not sure if you'd be a candidate, but that was the first thing that came to mind when reading about your experience. Here's a link to a few stories and articles about it: https://migraine.com/stories/reed-procedure, https://migraine.com/stories/omega-reed-procedures, and https://migraine.com/stories/quality-of-life-improved. I hope they help. - Cody (Team Member)
