Has anybody who suffers with hemiplegic migraines had seizures too?

Hi. I am at a bit of a loss here and stumbled across this forum.

Helping my parent with migraine

I do not personally suffer from migraines but my mum does. She has been diagnosed with severe familial hemiplegic migraines and to say it has turned her life upside down in the past 4 years is an understatement.

Seizures and migraine

This week she started seizing due to them and was even rushed into A&E Resus due to them. I guess I'm looking for some answers to try to help her in any way. Has anybody ever suffered seizures alongside migraines?

Also, any advice would be grateful right now (I have asked her neurologist but that was pointless).

Thank you in advance.

  1. Hi ,

Thank you for sharing your question and concerns with us. I'm sorry your mother is dealing with all this.

Hemiplegic migraine (HM) is a rare form of migraine disease and I'm sure others who experience this will be along soon to share their story with you. In the meantime, here is information on HM; https://migraine.com/living-migraine/hemiplegic-migraines-what-are-they/ https://migraine.com/video/hemiplegic-migraine-symptoms/

Will you keep us posted on how your mother is feeling?

    1. Hi ,
We are so glad you are here. Thanks for your question. I did a search on our articles to find something that fits your situation and the best one I could find was: https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-and-seizures/

I would recommend finding a headache specialist for her. This is a doctor that only works with patients that have migraine and other headache disorders. Here is a website with helpful information and a doctor finder.

Please keep us posted on how your mom is doing.
