Migraine, Hot Weather and Work

How do people deal with the hot weather when I comes to your work environment? I need to wear a uniform, long pants, a t-shirt, and cap but I feel overheated with this clothing (not to mention I'm in menopause, so hot flashes are in the mix). There is AC but still, it's hot for me. All of this triggers a migraine. Also thinking about the situation causes stress/anxiety. What to do!

  1. Uff, I hear what a challenge your work uniform is for your migraine symptoms, particularly in the summer, pennych. Have you considered requesting a workplace accommodation under the American Disabilities Act? Migraine is one of many illnesses protected under the ADA. I thought this article might give you a few ideas: https://migraine.com/blog/ada-accommodations-migraine-triggers-making-the-workplace-work-for-you/ I don't know what might be possible in your place of employment, but it could be beneficial to research and ask! Please keep us posted on how you are managing. Wishing you a gentle day. ~Allyson (Migraine.com team)

    1. Hi -

I'm so sorry to hear about your work uniform and the way the heat impacts your migraine symptoms. One thing I've noticed in the summer is that staying hydrated is really important for me to keep migraines at bay. I drink a lot of water, and also rely on Oral Rehydration Solutions (powder with electrolytes) like Pedialyte or Drip Drop that I can mix into my water. Maybe increasing your fluid intake could help balance out the overheating?

      Thinking of you!

      Warmly,
      Amanda (Migraine.com Team)
