Self-diagnosed Migraine

I haven't been to a GP for diagnosis of migraine. However most of my symptoms suggest one especially morning headaches and near bedtime ones. I've also been sensitive to sounds that a moderate to loud bang agitates me. Weather also is a factor. I've been living in a tropical country where we only have summer and rainy season with cool and windy breeze every December to February. Also, it has been around for almost a month on a regular interval. I might mistake it for Cluster Headache but it's rare and I don't experience any eye watering, drooling and other eye-related symptoms. What's different with mine is that it's sometimes more than 72 hours to last and the episodes are very brief lasting for 30 mins. at most with throbbing pain on my left head particularly near the temple. I hope I can find more information here to help me until I see a GP soon. Thank you.

  1. Hi
    Thank you for reaching out and sharing your story with us. Migraine is a complex neurological disease that falls on a spectrum from mild to severely debilitating. Having an accurate diagnosis goes a long way in getting the proper treatment plan. Once we have this, we can learn all we can about our particular type of headache disorder of which there are over 200!

    Cluster headache is another beast altogether. There are some hallmark symptoms that go along with cluster and you can read more here; https://migraine.com/living-migraine/cluster-headache-differences

    Do you have an appointment with the GP? Another issue with migraine is high frequency migraine attacks can lead to chronicity, and no one wants to be chronic.
    Episodic migraine (14 or fewer migraine/headache days a month) can transform into chronic migraine (15 or more migraine/headache days a month) fairly quickly, without proper treatment. https://migraine.com/frequency-episodic-chronic

    You're not alone in having weather impact our heads. When you get a chance you can read more about this here;

    I've also found WeatherX ear plugs to be beneficial. They have app that can alert us to changes in the pressure so we can prepare as much as possible for upcoming shifts. Here is their website; https://www.weatherx.com/.
    Will you let me know what you think? I'm sending wishes for a low pain day, Nancy Harris Bonk, team member
