My Migraine Saga

I am a 63 yr old woman who has suffered with headaches not just migraines since I was around 20 yrs of age. Once I even realized the severe headaches were migraines, I asked my doctor to prescribe something for me and this wasn't until I was in my 40's! He gave me a few migraine medication samples and said see which works best. The first time I tried Imitrex it didn't work. So I went to Zomig for a while and it worked, then I believe my insurance co-pay went up, so I changed to Maxalt, which also worked. Then I ultimately decided to try Imitrex again and it did indeed work and was the cheapest for me. Over the counter meds never ever helped me.

My symptoms

I do not suffer from nausea and do not get the aura, just the relentless pounding, and behind the eye discomfort. Would never go anywhere without my Imitrex, but through the years, I was using my 90 days supply up before the 90 days! At times I would not go to sleep with one but would get them during the night. Some lasted 4 days, and others would just come every other day. I was getting very depressed. I was getting at least 3 a week. Finally, at my annual check-up last year, my doctor suggested going on maintenance medication, he had a sample in the office of Ajovy.

Taking Ajovy for the first time

I decided I had nothing to lose. So I gave it a shot (sorry for the pun!) Much to my surprise that first month, I think I had one breakthrough headache, that actually went away on its own. I had no side effects at all. I must say that the injection itself which I get in my arm, hurts very much, but within 5 minutes of receiving it, it's like I never had it. So I obviously decided to continue with them. Every month is different, I will still get some headaches, sometimes I still have to take an Imitrex. And for a non-migraine headache I use either goodys or BC powders, they work within minutes but do not work for migraines. So I have experienced a significant reduction in my migraines. However, after about 6 months, I notice that I am experiencing constipation. Has anyone else experienced this? Also since it has been a full year, I feel these past 3 months, I have been getting more breakthrough headaches that require an Imitrex....Can I be becoming immune to it? Is this happening to anyone? Any thoughts about this would be appreciated.
