First Migraine

I was laying on the couch on our front porch on a great summer night, crying my eyes out. At six years old, I had been playing outside all day until BOOM! My parents sat by me, looking concerned, mum holding a cold cloth on my forehead. She later said I had played unusually hard that day - very intense. And I remember that, too. We always thought that acting kind of wild, as it was infrequent, caused some of my migraines. But decades later, a specialist told us about the "prodromal" phase and its symptoms. He guessed that, all those years ago, my behavior was a symptom of migraine, not a cause. This was a revelation: the migraines were not my fault. Wow. Six. Isn't it a long life we lead with this monstrous illness? Kate🌷
