Lorazepam

Greetings, was given a 10 day dose of .5 Lorazepam to use as need as my recent migraine would not stop and was literally killing me as they did blood work, etc. too. Instantly my migraine is gone. I would not like lorazepam every day, but oh if I could get it as a rescue or preventative if I know my migraine is going to flair. It would be peace of mind that I would not have to suffer for two weeks in agony. Why doesn't it work so well well on my migraine. First day I have been able to function and not be on deaths bed.

  1. , while I'm so glad that you finally got some relief from the recent migraine pain, it's understandable that you'd be hesitant to want to take lorazepam every day. I would imagine that not every (or many?) doctors would be willing to prescribe this as a daily treatment. That being said, having it for a preventative or rescue certainly could give you peace of mind and might be worth asking your doctor about it. (In fact, one of our community members asked about lorazepam as well as that medication is one that works for them too, https://migraine.com/forums/headaches.)

I know your message is from a week ago now, how are you managing currently? Any changes or thoughts since posting this? Wishing you a gentle day. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    1. Hi Christine, not good - went to the dr. yesterday...and she wanted me to take Effexor, and I don't like the side effect part of it, so I said no. I have Hasmimoto's, and she will only test TSH, while I did my own testing and T3 was extremely elevated, and I told her, I've had Hashis for 30+ years, I know when I'm hyper - but no, I don't know my own body. This all triggers migraine. She even looked at her watch during our appointment. Very by the book, had to fill out survey and "this is the medication you qualify for". Omg it was like applying for a loan based on my credit score. This is MY HEALTH! Disappointed as she is a top rated doctor.

      1. I am so sorry you had such a disappointing experience with the doctor! How frustrating and discouraging to have a doctor be so dismissive and unsupportive. You absolutely know your own body best, and I am frustrated for you that she did not listen to you. I know it's not always possible, but could you see a different doctor? You certainly deserve to be seeing someone who is actually on your team and listens to you! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
