Chronic Migraine Changed My Life Forever

These migraines started in my early 40s. At that time, I didn't understand why I was having horrible headaches. Later on, I found out I had chronic migraine, which changed my life forever.

Navigating the early years of chronic migraine

I can't tell you how many times I've been to the hospital because I lost count, as well as being admitted. In 2011, I was diagnosed with TBI from an injury that erased most of my childhood, motherhood, and just life itself. Honestly, at times, I get frustrated with myself whenever I have those moments where it feels like someone has erased everything from the blackboard.

Managing attacks at home

I haven't been to the ER in about 8 years, thank God. I know what to do when the migraine attack hits at a rate of 10-plus times. Everything I need is within my reach at home, and I made sure of that.

A daily fight

I'm 61 years old and still dealing with these chronic migraines, but I'm still here. I go to work every day, and yes, there are times when the attacks strike, and my mind goes blank, but that's life. I'm a fighter, and I refuse to allow these migraines to take over my life. It took me a very long time to finally realize I need to take care of myself and what it requires to have fewer attacks. There will be stress in my life that I can't control, but I'll know what to do when that happens.

Finding gratitude in my journey

I wake up every day with gratitude, knowing tomorrow is not promised. I'm grateful for having God in my life, who is the head of my ship. I pray for all those who read my messages that God gives you the strength and encouragement to make it through the storm.
