Are you using Triptans? If not, why not?

G'day,

I've suffered migraines for almost 40 years. Back when I was diagnosed in the late 80s I was told to take about 6 aspirin at the onset of the migraine, but all that ever seemed to do was make me vomit (sooner than I would normally be vomitting). Over the years I tried various other meds, but ultimately spent many many years taking nothing but bed for 6 hours.

About 8 years ago a doctor told me to try ibuprofen and metoclopramide, which has managed to keep me from the intense physical pain and discomfort of the migraine, but still struggling mentally - unable to 'brain'.

Then, just this month, I finally agreed to try a Triptan drug. I had heard about them some time ago, but being ADHD and whatever else, change does not come easy, so I'd refused. I've only had 1 migraine so far, and it's probably a bit quick of me to say, but - OMG! Not only did it treat the symptoms of the migraine - leaving me pain, nausea, and aphasia free, but I actually felt 'normal'. I could control my thoughts, and engage in conversations. Even better - the next few days after the migraine I did not suffer the normal "hangover".

I was prescribed Rizatriptan that dissolves under the tongue, and whilst I left work to go home to bed as I wasn't sure what to expect, next time I have a migraine, I'm going to finally try "push through it" like so many bosses have told me to do.

  1. Hello , I am so happy to hear that you are getting such relief! You're not alone in having the experience of years and years of moderate (or no) relief, despite various types of treatment. It's always helpful to hear from others, about their experiences as well as what is helping manage symptoms. We really appreciate you sharing with the community here. It is wonderful news that after so much time you've found something that helps you! Sending you gentle hugs and continued success with Rizatriptan! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

  2. I just wish that your previous bosses were kinder to you. Is your current work any better? I will cross my fingers that the rizatriptan continues to work well for you! Thank you for sharing this positive story!
