IS ANYONE GIVING THEMSELVES DHE INJECTIONS?

I AM TAKING DHE INJECTIONS AND TRIPTANS. MY INSURANCE COMPANY CUT BACK ON MY TRIPTANS SO I NEED TO STRETCH THEM FROM MONTH TO MONTH. I HATE THE INJECTIONS AND I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAD ANY TIPS? SOMETIMES THE INJECTIONS AREN'T BAD, BUT SOMETIMES THEY REALLY HURT AND BURN. ANY HELP OUT THERE??

PEACE,

SANDRA

  1. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! AS FOR THE TRIPTANS, THAT IS AN EXCELLENT SUGGESTION. MY DR. DID SUBMIT A PRE AUTHORIZATION WHICH WAS REJECTED. I WILL ASK HER ABOUT SUBMITTING FOR A SECOND DIFFERENT TRIPTAN.

    MUCH MUCH THANKS,
    SANDRA

    1. 808sandra,
I've learned a few tricks in giving myself injections.
The faster you push down and inject, the less it will hurt. I used to go really slow and a nurse told me that only makes it hurt longer.

If you use your free hand to smack your leg near the injection point while you are injecting, it helps the muscle to relax, which will also lessen the pain.

Lastly make sure the needle goes all the way in and down into the muscle. If it doesn't the medicine will pool under the skin and not disperse- that hurts too!

      1. Has anyone here injected toradol subcutaneous instead of im? I am finding it very painful, and I end up having bruises. My Dr told me to do it this way, but I have not heard of anyone else that does.

        1. I take 2 ml, 30mg per a ml, and I draw up the solution myself from a vial, and self inject sc using a 25 Gage x 5/8th needle as well. It hurts quite a bit, more so the worse my migraine is, as it seems like my whole body is super sensitive. I inject in my stomach, same as I used to dhe.
