Is there anything new for people with aura but not a full migraine afterward?

I am in a stage where I only get an aura. However these auras are still often enough to be disturbing and have changed as I have gotten older.
I used to suffer the aura as a warning that the pain would follow. Now I just have the aura and a headache that an over the counter pain killer can easily handle and my day continues. But at 20 minutes each time, it still is a bother in my life. I am taking 100 mg Topamax each night as prescribed by a neurologist and avoiding chocolate and aged cheeses but none of these has really made a great difference, and the Topamax messes with my memory. I really would like to know if anything has come on the market in the last five years that has made a difference? Thank you all!

  1. It's hard to say what might help since each person responds to treatment differently. Have you tried any of the CGRP blocker medicines like Aimovig, Emgality, Nurtec, Qulipta, etc? Your doctor should be current on the latest medications and can make a recommendation based on your needs.

Also, if the topomax and food changes really haven't made a difference, it's okay to explore stopping them with your doctor. Sometimes the side effects just aren't worth the benefits.

Sorry I couldn't give you a more specific answer. Keep us posted, and good luck! -Melissa, team member
