Some Things That May Be Helpful for Migraines with Auras

I get chronic common migraines, but about once a year I also get a migraine with an aura. I usually take my migraine and nausea medications at the first sign of the aura and then go straight to bed and wait for the severe pain and vomiting.

The last 3 times I've had the aura, I have done the same routine as well as added a few new new things: I drink a little more water so I don't get dehydrated and eat a few crackers so the meds don't upset my stomach worse. I put on some acupressure wrist bands for nausea. I do some acupressure for migraines and nausea. And I do deep breathing as well as visualizing everything in my head going back to normal.

So far, the results have been that I have bypassed the worst of the headaches and the vomiting. I still have 2-3 days of the after-effects, but I'm happy with that if I can bypass the worst of it.

I hope this helps some of you.

  1. Hi , thank you for sharing what works well for you, and I'm glad to hear that it helps you skip the worst of the pain. What acupressure points do you find most effective for you? - Warmly, Donna (Team Member)

Do you use all the points at once, or separately as needed? - Warmly, Donna Team Member)

    2. I do all of the pressure points for about 15 seconds each and then do another round of them all. I do deep breathing at the same time - about 4 seconds in and 4 seconds out. I continue the deep breathing for about 5 or 10 minutes after the acupressure.

  2. Thanks for sharing this. It's really encouraging to hear you've found a routine that helps reduce the worst symptoms. Hopefully it continues to work for you, and maybe it can help others dealing with migraine auras too.

  3. I'm really glad you've found a routine that seems to help. It's always encouraging to hear what has worked for someone, even though everyone's migraines can be different. Hopefully it gives others some ideas to discuss with their healthcare provider and see what works best for them.
