Ajovy and zavzepret - side effect, Raynauds

Hi - Anjovy has been my savior for maintenance, and Zavzepret for rescue. Hardly any migraines and Zavzepret got me through Christmas. However, I am freezing. Like subzero, can not get warm unless I have a head to toe heated blanket on me. Anyone else go through this? Suggestions? (Besides bundling up so much I can't move LOL). Thanks, Lisa

  1. Hi there . Well to start, I'm glad to hear you made it through the holiday with minimal interference from migraine symptoms. I noticed the title here says Raynauds and you mentioned feeling really cold and wanting some insight there so I went ahead and looked this topic up on our site. I found one article, that has some comments so I'm going to share that here to see if you might find it helpful (https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-comorbidities-raynauds-phenomenonsyndrome). That in mind, it looks like you're definitely not alone with this experience! Though Raynaud's tends to be more localized and it sounds like you're experience is more like your entire body feeling cold. Is that right? Has your doctor been able to shed any light on this? I'd definitely be curious to hear if you've found anything out since you posted this - or noticed any chances? - Jake (Team Member)

  2. Happy new year ! Hope you're doing OK so far. 😀 I can totally relate to being miserably cold this time of year, and actually was just gifted my first electric blanket. I am in HEAVEN. So, solidarity with you on that. Haha

Jake gave you some good info to start with. Did you have Raynaud's prior to starting Ajovy and the zavzepret? Raynaud's is specific to small blood vessels like the fingers and toes, not a full-body cold. But migraine itself can make it hard for people to regulate their body temperature.

One thing I do want to note is that the literature for Zavzepret specifically lists the development of Raynaud's as a potential side effect. It also says you should let your doctor know if you have Raynaud's prior to starting. Did the doctor ask you any questions about it when you first got the prescription? Either way, it's a good idea to let them know you're freezing just so they can be aware.

Keep in mind that it's always up to you what to do next -- sometimes the side effects are too much, and sometimes a person might feel it's worth it to put up with side effects for the relief they get.

Definitely keep us posted. Medication can definitely do some interesting things! Hang in there and stay warm. -Melissa, team member
