Migraines have diminished

I am a 74 year old woman and about 30 years ago my migraines started. My mother suffered and my sister and my son.

They changed over the years. For years just headaches then more visual disturbances and occasionally being sick, then about 2 years ago the pain switched from the front of my head to the back of my neck like a knife stabbing me. Eventually I was suffering every day and my doctor referred me to a Neurologist who I'm still waiting to see being the NHS.

About 6 weeks ago the migraines just stopped ... I can't tell you the relief I felt. Of course I'm sure I will still get one in the future but wondered what has happened I gave googled and found that it could be age related. Have any older people on here experienced this I am curious to know.

Thanks for reading this.

  1. Hello, , and welcome! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the community here. I can hear how debilitating migraine has been for you, and know a lot of our community members can relate to the knife stabbing feeling you talk about. Thank goodness you were able to be referred to a neurologist, although I'm sorry to hear that it's taking so long to get in.

What wonderful news that you haven't had migraine in six weeks! What relief!! And yes, I would be curious to hear what migraine experts would say, perhaps it is age / hormone related? While I certainly wouldn't pretend to know for sure, we do have some information on hormone and migraine. I found this article about menopause/hysterectomy most informative which includes information on how some people find migraine gets better after menopause, https://migraine.com/blog/hysterectomy-and-migraines (not to suggest that those both apply to you specifically).

Whatever the reason, I am so very happy for you that you've experienced so many weeks of relief and I am hopeful that things will continue in this positive way for you! If you're comfortable, please keep us posted with how you're doing. And hopefully some of our older community members can share any of their experiences here with you as well.

Wishing you a gentle day! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
