Positional headaches

Does anyone have these? I’ve been experiencing these for about a year now on top of regular headaches and migraines. So tired.

  1. , I don't have Positional Headaches, but I wanted to welcome you to our forums and try to give you some information from our site while we wait for others to chime in. Our website doesn't have much information on positional headaches, but I would highly suggest seeing a headache professional because there may or may not be something going on that needs immediate attention. Ideally, you should see a headache specialist. I know that not everyone lives near one, and there are some great neurologists that know a lot about migraine disease. It's so important to get an accurate diagnosis. Below are some links that you may find of interest.

    1. I don't know if this is considered a positional headache but a lot of evenings when I go to bed I gat a headache when I lay flat on back in bed. I try to stay calm and I have made it a habit take some CBD before bed and actually raise the head of my mattress so it is not completely flat. I can usually fall asleep and then lower the bed later during the night. Sometimes I take some headache medicine without caffeine before bed too. I have tried so many medications with so many nasty side effects that I have been going solo on my treatment. No way foolproof but just as good as the medications that didn't work but no nasty side effects. Hope that you can find some relief.

      1. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. It very frustrating when we try so many medications without good results. Try not to get too discouraged we're here for you!
        I do wonder if it may be time to seek out another opinion from a doctor who is an expert in treating migraine and headache. General neurologists may be fine doctors but have a hard time being experts in one area because they treat many conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's and more. A true migraine/headache expert certified in headache medicine, all neurologists are not and treat migraine and headache all day, every day. Here is more information on how these doctors are different and how to find one;

    2. Hi there, - have you considered seeing a spine specialist? I have positional headaches ALL the time. I have a dx of spondyloarthritis and have my spine fused - 2 levels in the cervical (neck) and 3 levels in the thoracic (mid back) with a rod. This causes me horrific headaches and at times migraines, and cervicogenic headaches as well. Low pressure in the spinal cord from a leak can be causing it as well. Have you had a cerebrospinal fluid draw recently? Contacting a headache/migraine specialist as well as a spine specialist or surgeon may be an option. Hope this information helps. Best of health always ~ Rebecca (comm advc)

      1. , thanks for bringing this up. I did some research before I responded to initial post and found information about the possibility of a spinal leak. Since I didn't have much knowledge about this condition, I didn't want to alarm this community member, but it's good to hear about this from someone who better understands this condition. Addressing this condition would most definitely require a headache or migraine specialist. , please let us know how you are doing.

    3. I have seen many doctors about this. The latest was a neurologist who completely dismissed me. I will be trying another neurologist whom I’ve had in the past. The cardiologist said my heart is fine. I requested my regular doctor test for low csf but was dismissed as well. I will be requesting the tests from the new neurologist. I had an mri recently but the only did the head and without dye even though I requested the full scan for a leak. I will keep on requesting until they rule low csf put.

      1. - yes I've dealt with dismissive doctors and I never went back. Just saw the third neurologist and he pushed meds. I don't know what to do. He did send me for an MRI brain and a carotid US (??) for pain so we will see. Have an appt in August for results. Wishing you better luck with doctors and that you find a reason you are in pain. Please keep us updated as we want to truly surround you with support and care. Rebecca (comm advc)

      2. That is unacceptable for your doctor to dismiss you when you are having the symptoms you have described. It sounds like you are on the right path as far as finding a doctor that will run the tests you need. Please keep us updated on this. It's important to know whether or not you have a spinal leak.
