As a migraine sufferer for the past twelve years, my sympathy and compassion goes out to all that suffer from this evil affliction.
I am very fortunate to have an insurance company that covers the entire cost of Nurtec. This medication works very well for me, and I'm very grateful for being introduced to it.
That said, you might ask "why would you not take this medication at the first hint of a migraine?"
The answer is: "most times I do".
Only you know your own body, and I want to emphasize this is MY experience only and not a suggestion.
When I use Nurtec, the migraine symptoms begin to ease at about 1 hour and are usually completely gone at 2 hours. Sounds great right? It is great!
Here's the problem: When I use the medication, I get migraines more frequently. The doctor is skeptical of this, but I maintain my position.
When I let the migraine run its full course, usually 10 to 12 hours, once relief sets in, I will get several days between attacks.
So the real question is: "When NOT to medicate?"
I will not medicate if I have ample time without work or social interaction. It sounds crazy, but I'll let the nasty migraine run its course. I almost always get a few days of added relief. As any migraine victim knows, a few days without that kind of misery is huge!
That's my comment. Take it as you will. NOT ADVICE.
